Opening Day at the The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch® – “Escape Into Color”

The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are primed to add a pop of color to the rolling hills of Northern San Diego County with over 70 million flowers set to bloom beginning Tuesday, March 1, 2022. The Southern California attraction’s 2022 theme of “Escape Into Color” is fitting as the seemingly endless rows of color-coordinated blooms create a strikingly beautiful backdrop that immerses visitors in floral splendor.

Inflatable Architecture

Engineering, art and nature intersect as students conduct amazing experiments with bubbles and learn how to turn simple bags into pillows and architectural structures! Together, we will turn ordinary materials into giant inflatable forts and construct an imaginative public art display. This is an in-person workshop. Grades: 6th-8th.

Envisioning a Sustainable City of the Future

What will the city of the future look like? In this hands-on workshop, students will consider principles of urban design, user experience, climate and sustainability as they design a futuristic city. Beethoven, Mozart, and Shostakovich

A rising star among young American conductors, Jonathon Heyward, leads the Orchestra in Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9. Written in 1945 at the end of World War 2, this symphony was expected by the Soviet authorities to be a loud and noisy public celebration; when the composer created instead this lovely work of lightness, delicacy, charm and personal sorrow, he was roundly criticized by the political hacks.
